WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL MANUAL THERAPY®?

Functional Manual Therapy® is a state-of-the-art integrated treatment approach that was developed by Gregory Johnson and Vicky Saliba Johnson who also both cofounded The Institute of Physical Art. They both continue to work to further develop and evolve this approach.
FMT® integrates the evaluation and treatment of three main components. The mechanical components involve manual treatment of the joint, soft tissue, muscular, neurovascular or visceral structures which limit range of motion and function. The neuromuscular components involve treatment of initiation, strength and endurance of specific muscle groups within a movement pattern. Finally the treatment of motor control which trains the patient to assume a balanced posture and perform efficient functional activities such as rolling, sitting, walking, running and lifting using efficient movement patterns. FMT® treats the whole patient, not just a particular segment of the body.

Whether you are a high level athlete or you have long standing chronic pain that has severely affected your quality of life, Functional Manual Therapy® can change and enhance your life.

TREATMENT SESSIONS INVOLVE: hands-on Functional Manual Therapy®, neuromuscular reeducation, integration of more efficient movement patterns, customized therapeutic exercise programs, and body mechanics training. Alison provides 75 minutes of specialized care to help achieve your goals and enhance your life.

FMT® involves the patient through every aspect of the treatment process. This is not a quick-fix approach; we look at the whole body to identify and treat the source of the problem. As well as treating injuries, FMT® provides an excellent approach to preventing injuries and performance enhancement.
